Local Spotlight: WGA Professional Development Day

Calling all Wisconsin-based game developers – the Wisconsin Games Alliance’s Professional Development Day kicks off on Friday October 18th, 2019!

Hosted at StartingBlock Madison and featuring two unique workshops on Unreal Engine 4 development fundamentals and version control for game devs, the all-day event is a must-attend for developers of all backgrounds and levels of experience. Tickets for the event are available for purchase now – here’s a closer look at what’s in store:

Introduction to UE4 and Blueprints

9:00AM – 12:00PM CT

Drawing on more than a decade of game development experience right here in Wisconsin, Filament Games alum Arthur Low offers a crash course in Unreal Engine 4 game prototyping, covering topics like navigating the interface, design patterns, and visual scripting with Blueprints! Folks interested in attending this hands-on session are required to bring a laptop with Unreal Engine 4 installed ahead of time.

Source Control for Game Devs: Git and Other Tools

1:00PM – 3:00PM CT

Version control is a critical component of any game developer’s workflow – in this workshop, Madison-based developers Alicia Pressley and Phil Dougherty will flex their source control expertise, offering attendees a closer look at the fundamentals behind version control system “Git” along with insights that can be translated to other version control tools. As with its sister session, attendees are required to bring a laptop with them with the “git” tool preinstalled.

Excited to attend either (or both!) of the workshops listed above? Tickets for the Wisconsin Games Alliance’s Professional Development Day are available now! And folks seeking additional learning opportunities beyond this month’s workshops are in luck too – the annual Midwest Game Developers Conference (M+DEV) will be returning on February 14, 2020. It’s an exciting time to be a part of Wisconsin’s vibrant and growing game development community – and we’re thrilled to help support the mission and initiatives led by the Wisconsin Games Alliance!
