Top 10 Hashtags for Amplifying your EdTech and Game-Based Learning Tweets

How many times have you written the perfect Tweet, only for it to seemingly slip by completely unnoticed by your friends, fans, and followers?

That never feels good, does it?

With more than 500 million new Tweets sent each day, it’s easy to see why your content might sometimes be unseen or underappreciated by others. But at the same time, you also want to make sure you’re doing everything you can to maximize your potential number of impressions (a.k.a. the number of users who see your post in their feeds). This brings me to the topic of today’s blog: how to utilize the most popular game-based learning and EdTech hashtags to amplify your Twitter content!

Below, we’ve assembled a list of 10 of the most popular and frequently used digital learning Twitter hashtags. Covering a suite of topics ranging from educational smartphone apps to gamification best practices, your content will almost surely receive more exposure than ever before as soon you begin incorporating these hashtags into your Twitter routine. Without further ado, let’s jump right into our list:

#GBL – Game-based Learning

One of our most frequently-used hashtags, #GBL is your one-stop shop for all things game-based learning

#Games4Ed – Games for Education

Similar in style to #GBL, #Games4Ed is another popular hashtag used for weekly game-based learning Twitter Chats.

#EdTech – Educational Technology

Another one of our most commonly included hashtags, #EdTech is an essential keyword to include alongside all content related to the application of technology in educational settings.

#Gamification – Gamification

Familiar with the differences between game-based learning and gamification? If you’re Tweeting about the latter, be sure to add the #Gamification tag to maximize your potential exposure!

#EdChat – Educator Chat (Worldwide)

#EdChat is a hugely popular hashtag used primarily by educators to share memorable teaching moments, learning experiences, classroom resources, and more. Scanning the #EdChat feed is a surefire way to identify passionate educators working at the cutting-edge of education!

#mlearning – Mobile Learning

Wikipedia defines #mlearning as, “learning across multiple contexts, through social and content interactions, using personal electronic devices.” Tweeting about anytime, anywhere learning experiences using mobile phones and tablets? Be sure to share with the #mlearning community!

#elearning – Online Learning and Web-based Training

#elearning refers to the practice of using technology to learn outside of the context of a classroom or traditional learning environment. While not as popular as other tags like #EdTech, #elearning can serve as a great supplement to a well-balanced hashtag diet.

#simulation – Learning/Training Simulations

No time for fun and games? #Simulation is the perfect keyword when you’re discussing more serious, high-fidelity learning and training simulations.

#ARVRinEDU – Augmented and Virtual Reality in Education

Tweeting about augmented reality, virtual reality, or mixed reality? #ARVRinEDU is the hashtag for you (don’t forget to include broader keywords like #VR and #AR too!)

#EdApps – Educational Smartphone Apps

Have a new smartphone app you’re trying to promote? Or perhaps you’re on the hunt for the next big learning game or EdTech tool? Either way, #EdApps is an essential hashtag for fans of educational mobile and smartphone apps.

As with most things in life, moderation is key when using Twitter hashtags (after all, too much of anything can be a bad thing.) In my experience, I’d caution against including more than four or five hashtags per Tweet – you wouldn’t want a wall of keywords to distract readers from your actual content, would you? Similarly, try to avoid using extra hashtags that are irrelevant to your Tweet’s content as a strategy to generate more impressions. It’s far more useful to use fewer, specifically-targeted keywords if you’re trying to reach an audience with specific interests in mind.
